What do they do?
The Southport Eco Visitor-Centre is cited on the Esplanade Park and Ride site, close to Southport's famous seafront. The Centre is a unique gateway for travel into Southport, offering a practical demonstration of sustainability and inspiring visitors to consider their impact on the environment through stimulating information and displays about energy, transport, climate change and tourism.
It is only a short distance from Formby beach, so is a great place to visit if you're in Formby.
What support is offered to Schools?
Curriculum linked, interactive environmental education workshops, covering a wide range of subjects including climate change, renewable energy, green transport, water conservation and coastal management. Core activities are based around the unique eco features of the building itself, including a guided tour of the site, an activity based around the hands-on display boards, and an interactive environmental quiz. Many sessions include pupils producing movies or presentations which can be enjoyed back at school and used to promote eco issues after a visit. Aimed at primarily Key Stage 2, the sessions are usually adaptable to Key Stage 3. Sessions are usually a full day (9:30-2:30), but can be designed to meet your needs. Please contact the Eco Centre for further information.
