Here is information which assesses the disabled access of some of our directory 'Places to Visit' sites. Sites were visited and assessed between February and March 2011 using the standards compiled by the Fieldfare Trust and Accessible Environments. The facilities were surveyed, for example with regard to how easy they were to enter and move around in, if they had safety rails and if buttons or taps could be easily reached and turned on by someone with restricted movement in their hands. Paths were surveyed with regards to steepness of gradient, path width, resting places and evenness of the surface. Sometimes sections of path or parts of the facilities would require a person to have extra assistance from a carer or member of staff they were with to make sure they could access the facility properly. In this case advisory notes were also made with each survey, so that this would help schools in planning a visit. Advisory comments have been included on each page below the facilities each site has to offer. A key regarding the facilities each site has to offer and a list of sites can be seen below.
