Treemarkable soundscapes
During the Treemarkable project at Heald Place Primary the pupils had the wonderful opportunity of working with PhD student Ryan Woods creating soundscapes. Initially the pupils undertook deep listening exercises before engaging creatively with the trees in their school grounds.
Each of the soundscape merge two recordings. The first composition was made by each pupil gently drumming, rubbing and interacting with trees. The trees were microphoned up and the pupils wore headphones so their interactions were amplified. After practicing they played their soundscapes to each other through a speaker and these performances were recorded. For the second composition the pupils were invited to choose a favourite tree and then write a letter to the human race from the perspective of that tree and it is these letters, read out by the pupils, which form the latter part of the soundscapes.
Please relax, listen and enjoy.
