Caritas Lalley Community Allotment

Address:

Caritas Lalley Community Allotment
Eggington Street
Collyhurst
Manchester M40 7RN

What Do They Do?

Their allotment grows organic produce, which is distributed in our food pantry, and welcomes people to experience the benefits of being outside in a peaceful, nature-rich space. They work with various groups in the local community on a regular basis, with a focus on wellbeing and environmental education in all our sessions. They are part of the Lalley Centre project, run by the anti-poverty charity Caritas Salford.

What Do They Offer Schools?

They offer one-off visits for school groups to inspire stronger connections to sustainable food and urban nature for students. This includes doing practical seasonal horticulture, learning plant IDs and giving an introduction to food waste composting using our innovative system on site. For teachers, they can offer advice on managing a garden at school and how to set up a sustainable composting initiative involving pupils. If your visit includes 1-1:30pm, groups can join in with the Caritas Compost Club in which pupils from our local primary school recycle their food waste and sing the Caritas Compost Song. Visiting days are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with times to be arranged with staff.
