What do they do?
An anti-nuclear weapons, anti-nuclear power and peace organisation. GM&DCND lobbies politicians, produces information packs and leaflets, organises non-violent direct action protests at nuclear weapons bases and nuclear power plants and aims to change government policy on the so called nuclear deterrent, Trident.
What support is offered to Schools?
CND has a Peace Education Worker who is available to visit schools and organise interactive workshops and talks on anti-nuclear, anti-war and peace themes. There is also a Peace Education Schools Pack available.
Example of activities
Greater Manchester CND have done workshops in schools focusing on the Iraq war, the problems with nuclear power and NATO. During the Hiroshima and Nagasaki anniversaries they worked in partnership with a Japanese artist, teaching pupils to make paper cranes, a Japanese symbol of peace.
