The skills of Education for Sustainability

The skills of Education for Sustainability are needed to ensure everyone can work together to find relevant information, assess it and make discriminate choices so they can act on their knowledge ethically and in a way which reflects the values of Education for Sustainability.

The skills of Education for Sustainability are:

  • Enquiry – which is needed to find out information effectively
  • Evaluating information – to determine the quality of information 
  • Communication – to develop an ability to express thoughts and feelings 
  • Critical thinking – to develop an open and critical mind 
  • Creative thinking – to use imagination as well as logic to develop insights 
  • Ethical judgement – an ability to use their own moral criteria 
  • Co-operation – an ability to work with others in a group 
  • Decision making – the ability to make and influence decisions 
  • Conflict resolution – to deal with conflicts and find a range of solutions
